For the college student
At this point in your son or daughter's life, it is important to talk about general health issues. Many college students become run down, might not eat as well as they did when at home, and have a hectic lifestyle leaving them more susceptible to illness. Encourage them to go to the college health center with any medial concerns.
There will be certain immunization requirements for students who are headed off to college. Your college-bound kid will have many new experiences, meet new people, and may travel to new places. Some students will be from other parts of the world where vaccine preventable diseases are more common. Make sure your son or daughter is protected and talk to their doctor about vaccines that are important for college students.
Consider the following vaccines for your college student:
- Meningococcal vaccine
- Tetanus-diptheria-pertussis vaccine (Tdap)
- Human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV)
- Hepatitis A
