On movie screens, scientists race to find a vaccine for a mysterious virus in "Contagion." In real life, we're in danger of potentially deadly outbreaks from familiar diseases for which we have vaccines.
Too many parents are failing to get their kids properly immunized. A new survey, appearing in the November issue of Pediatrics journal, found that 13 percent of parents had not gotten their children vaccinated on schedule.

TAPI in the News: Forming Public-Private partnerships
Debbie McCune Davis, Director of The Arizona Partnership for Immunization, speaks about partnership development to help support adult immunizations. Without state funds for adult immunizations, health care workers turned to hospitals to cover vaccine costs for vaccines such as Tdap, which prevents the spread of whooping cough.

Manzanita Senior Center in Phoenix Introduces Influenza Awareness Initiative
A flu clinic at Manzanita Senior Center aims to inform older adults about the importance of influenza protection and the key role vaccination plays in helping to improve the body's immune response against the virus.
Adults 65 years of age and older are typically the hardest hit by influenza, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A new program launching in the Phoenix area, called Influenza Immunization for You, urges older adults to talk to their health-care provider about vaccine options, according to the group.

TAPI to participate in the 24th Annual School Health Nursing Seminar
TAPI will be attending the 24th Annual School Health Nursing Seminar - "Launching Arizona School Health into a New Decade". The seminar will take place on July 18th, 19th and 20th at Chaparral Suites Resorts, Scottdale, Arizona. TAPI will be providing resource material to attendees on Tuesday, July 19th.

Deputy Director of the CDC Immunization Division to speak at CME Conference April 27th at the Phoenix County Club
TAPI is hosting a CME conference for OB/GYNs, Family Practice and Arizona medical leadership this morning at the Phoenix Country Club. Speakers will include Dr. M, Wharton, Deputy Director of the CDC Immunization Division and Dr. Coonrod, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maricopa Medical Center. The presenters will be discussing Tdap administration as part of preconception health and cocooning.

15th Annual Big Shots for Arizona Banquet, April 27th
The Arizona Partnership for Immunization will host the15th Annual Big Shots for Arizona and the Daniel T. Cloud, MD Awards and Recognition Banquet. This event recognizes individuals and organizations who work tirelessly to imporve immunization levels of Arizonans. This past July, Dr. Daniel T. Cloud, MD, Chairman of the TAPI Steering Committee passed away. We will honor him for his leadership and all of the good things he did for our community. Melinda Wharton, MD, Deputy Director, NCIRD from the CDC will be the keynote speaker.
